Ashes-
"I most certainly don't give a shit about you or your thoughts." I would expect that from someone who has never taken a moment to extend a whit of goodwill toward anybody. Why not try, oh, I don't know, sharing some of your Garcia collection with the world by burning some CD's, then mailing them out to unwitting recipients for a change? Jeez Louise!

Never went to Market Square, but some friends in school did make it up to Indy for that show. Isn't that the one with C.C. Rider going into double-time tempo at the end?

And am I the only one who always feels a little clumsy spelling it "C.C." Rider? Because I know that's how it's recognized, but sticklers about blues, such as myself, also know that it should be written "See, See, Rider."

See, see, rider
See what you done done

It ain't about somebody named C.C. It's talking 'bout that little ol' rider, a common nickname in blues songs for a woman with a decidedly liberal sexuality.

BryanE: yeah, buddie, you nailed it... I heard it during last night's GROK -- one of those tunes/versions I can keep hearing over-and-over, again-and-again. I wonder why they did the double-time tempo on that evening -- and then I don't think it was ever played that way again(?)

(I feel most comfortable writing it as "See, See Rider?" ..as in the question, "See what you have done?")

Did I ever tell you I had Robert Plant in the front seat of my cab back in the mid-1980's? He invited me to his show at the Worcester Centrum that evening ("the limo picks us up at 6:00 so be at the hotel if you wanna go..." Told him I had to work..........to see Jerry. He loved my response --- was howling with laughter and gave me the "thumbs up" as I drove away.)

Yeah, you did tell me the Plant story, but it is still way, way cool.

Jamming out to the Market Square tape inspired somebody back then to come up with the title "Psycho C.C. Rider," but I thought that was stupid.

Hey B--is that really how it was spelled originally? I am embarrassed to say that way, way back when, someone told me it was about a 'person' that went by those initials ("CC") and naively I went for it. Have even argued with folks about it (hhmmm, hope I don't have to admit I was wrong now...). Assume I could google it and find out, but just thought I would ask.

Least of all--I take it you and Ashes are having a bit of fun here?

Yeah. Ma Rainey did a "See See Rider Blues" back in the 20's.

And I hope he and I are just having a little fun. We both have a tendency to forget to type in emoticons when we're being sardonic.

Forgot to mention, too, that Pigpen talked about his "rider" in a lot of his raps. Plant used the term in one or two Led Zeppelin songs, as well

BryanE: No idea if you are interested in not, but Spencer Davis (and Hornsby) played "See, See.." and others back in 1989 (1989-12-10 - Great Western LA Forum)
